Lake Illawarra MAP (Memory And Place) Project
ABOUT the Project
The Lake Illawarra MAP (Memory And Place) Film project has been a way to explore the diversity of the Lake environment and to explore the collective memory of Lake Illawarra seen through the moving image.
The Lake Illawarra MAP Project is collection of short films or digital stories, ranging from contemporary video to archival film footage. Each one of these films contains a strong sense or 'memory' and many of them reflect on the environmental, cultural or historical significance or the Lake to individuals and the community. Some of the stories are not specifically about the Lake but they are about the people who live near or visit the Lake and the things that are important to them. The stories have made through collaborations between community members and experienced writers and film makers.
The Lake Illawarra MAP project has sought to create a topography of memory for the Lake by absorbing the stories of its ecology, biodiversity, history, and interactions with the people, suburbs and neighbourhoods that border. The Lake Illawarra MAP project allows people to shares these stories with each other. Schools interested in the Lake will find the MAP project stories invaluable and copies of these films will soon be available through Community and School Libraries as well as being able to be viewed online.
The digital stories in the Lake Illawarra MAP Project were produced during 2008 and 2009.
